Do I need a license to install and repair septic systems?
Yes, Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) requires that all on-site wastewater treatment system (OWTS) installers be licensed with the Department. In order to obtain a license, TCHD must receive a completed application, affidavit of citizenship, and license fee. In addition, the applicant must take and pass the system’s contractor exam. The exam covers various sections of the Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Regulations and you can take an exam at one of our four Environmental Health offices during business hours (8am-5pm M-F, closed from noon – 1:00pm). The license is valid from January 1 to December 31 and must be renewed every year.
