One of the most pronounced shifts in
Colorado’s
demographics is the aging population. The increasing number of seniors
affects families, health providers, caregivers, policy and business.
According to the Colorado Department of Human
Services, Division on Aging and Adult Services State Plan on Aging—2003–2007,
in the next ten years the percentage of the state’s population
of persons over 60 years of age will increase by 47%, to nearly 900,000.
The Colorado
Trust has allocated $6.5 million dollars for a four-year initiative
designed to strengthen the organizational capacity of senior-serving
organizations and increase and improve service provision to today’s
seniors ages 65 and older. This new initiative includes a grant
program to implement new programs and support or expand existing
programs.
