Tri-County Health Department joins the Denver Museum of Nature & Science in promoting Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart.
Why is Tri-County Health Department promoting this exhibit?
We believe that when people understand more about how the body works, they become more involved in taking better care of themselves to sustain good health.
This exhibition is primarily focused on heart health, and it also illustrates other public health concerns in vivid detail, including the results of healthy habits such as good nutrition and exercise, along with health threats such as smoking and obesity.
Why display real human bodies instead of using constructed models?
The primary mission of the BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart exhibit is health education. Individual specimens are used to compare healthy and diseased organs in order to emphasize the importance of a healthy life-style. Real human bodies show the details of disease, physiology, and anatomy that cannot be shown with models. In essence, the bodies are frozen in time between death and decay.
The exhibition features real human specimens permanently preserved through Plastination. All anatomical specimens on display are authentic, and the individuals donated their bodies specifically for display.

Is this exhibition appropriate for children?
Nearly 30 million people have viewed Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS exhibitions, including children. Due to the sensitive nature of this exhibition, however, the Museum is recommending the exhibition for schoolchildren in grades 5 and above.
There may be displays in the exhibition that adults will want to explain to their children. Numerous educational materials are available for parents and teachers.
Discover what you're made of.
BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart, an all-new exhibition, will reveal — through the lenses of anatomy, cardiology, psychology and culture — how the heart nourishes, regulates and sustains life.
The exhibition will give Museum visitors profound insight into the human body, health and disease, and the intricate world of the cardiovascular system.
The exhibition will awe visitors with more than 200 human specimens, including whole-body plastinates, organs and translucent body slices.
