Free or Low-cost Vasectomy Services

A vasectomy is a simple surgical procedure for permanent sterilization, in which the tube leading from each testicle is cut and sealed. Tri-County Health Department provides free/low-cost "no-scalpel" vasectomies to qualifying men.

In order to qualify for a free/low-cost vasectomy:
• A person must be at least 21 years old
Meet lower-income requirements
Not have health insurance

The pre-vasectomy screening appointment is done in our Aurora, Castle Rock, Commerce City, Englewood and Northglenn offices. (Maps) This initial appointment is on a sliding scale, not free. The actual vasectomy is free and is done on a different day in a doctor's office, located elsewhere.

After signing the consent at the pre-vasectomy screening appointment, a 30 day waiting period is required by law. This is to give each man time to make sure that it is really the best decision for him.

A limited number of vasectomies are available. Appointments are required.

"No-Scalpel" Vasectomy:
Over 500,000 vasectomies are performed each year in the US. It is normally done in a doctor’s office with the use of a local anesthetic and takes between 10 and 40 minutes.

In the "No-Scalpel" method, the doctor makes only one tiny puncture into the skin with a special instrument. The tubes are then blocked, using the same method as a conventional vasectomy, but because no incision was made, there is very little bleeding and no stitches are needed to close the tiny opening. Recovery is usually complete in three to five days.

We provide complete information on what to do before the vasectomy as well as what to expect after the vasectomy is done.
