What Is Cervical Cancer?
Cancer starts when cells in the body begin to grow out of control. Cervical cancer starts in the cells lining the cervix -- the lower part of the uterus (womb). The cervix connects the body of the uterus to the vagina. (American Cancer Society)
Most cervical cancers are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus that is passed from person to person during sex. Two screening tests can help prevent cervical cancer; a Pap test and an HPV test. Here’s what you need to know:
