What is the time commitment for being a preceptor?
This will vary based on the length of the intern's rotation, but will include time for setting expectations with the intern, explaining and reviewing projects you may have the intern work on, discussing your usual protocol and decision making process for patient care, co-signing chart notes, and time to complete an evaluation on the intern at the end of their rotation with you. On the other hand, many interns are able to complete large projects and give back to the facility through their in-kind service, which can reduce the net time needed for precepting.
